First appointment:

You are joining a growing number of men and women who have found therapeuticmassgae to be a valuable addition to their health and fitness routines and an effective complemento to other health care services.  Many people seek therapeutic massage as a natural means to promote healthy living and to enhance the body's own restorative powers.

Why are you getting a massage?

One of the first things I will want to know is why you are getting a massage, so that I may plan the session to address your needs and desires.  The most common reasons are:

*General Relaxation

*Relieve Sore or Tight Muscles

*Releive Tension Headaches

*Recovery from Sports Activity

*General Health & Fitness

*Improve Circulation

*Complement to Other Health Care

Let me know in the innital interview what you are looking for, so that I am able to assess any goal setting plans snd enhance your overall experience.

What are your concerns about the session?

Discuss with me any concerns you have about the upcoming sesson.  It is important that you are comfortable during the massage and that you know your options.  Here are some commonly expressed concerns of new clients to massage:

Modesty:  In your massage session you will be draped with a sheet.  You may choose to dress down to your comfort level under the sheet.  As each body part is being massaged, it is uncovered.  Genitals and women's breasts will be covered at all times.

Talking:  Talking during your massage is optional.  Some people prefer silence, especially during a massage for general relaxation, while others like more social interaction.  I generally leave it up to my client and take cue's from you.  This is about your overall experince and it is my goal to provide you with the best possible care.

Oil:  Oil, lotion or cream are most commonly used to enable me as a therapist to glide over your skin without causing chaffing or pulling hair.  Please inform me of any allergies you have which might be aggravated by the lubricant used.

Make-up & Hair:  Massage of the face, scalp or neck may result in disturbing your makeup or hair-style.  Please let me know if this is a concern.  I will modify my technique, be especially careful or skip the area all together.

Pain: Wether you will feel pain during your massage depends on many factors, including your physical condition, the reason for your massage, your pain tolerance and my technique.  Please discuss this with me before your first massage session and give me feedback during the session.  Tense muscles are often sore and may hurt a little when massaged.  Sometimes there is a delayed soreness after massage.  Takea hot shower or bath and drink plenty of water to help remove waste products flushed out during a massage.  This is especially important after your first massage.  The more massage you receive, the less likely you will experience post-massage soreness.

Length of session:  I offer 30 Minute, One Hour, 90 Minute and Two Hour sessions.  The amount of time depends on the purpose of the session, my schedule and the avalibility of your time and reources.

Are there any restrictions?  There are certain situations in which caution should be taken before receiving theraputic massage.  If you have uncontrolled high blood pressure, heart disease, recent surgery or fractures, phlebitis, fever or other problem conditions, you will need to consult your doctor for any restrictions on receiving massage.  In some cases limited restrictions apply and in rare cases, massage should be avoided altogether.  If in doubt ~ Please consult your doctor.

What health information should I provide?  You will be asked to fill out a health history form concerning your current and past state of health.  This information is used to help plan your massage session and to insure your safety.  Important information includes any major health problems you may have, medications you may be taking, allergies, state of pregnancy and recent accidents or other injuries.

Financial matters:  Payment is due either immediately before or after the session.  The methods of payment that I accept are:  Cash, Check and Visa/Mastercard.

Missed appointments: As a courtesy I request that you please give me 24 hours notice before cancelling appointments.  If cancelling appointments without notice becomes a habit, there is a $35.00 missed appointment fee that will be assessed. (I usually go by the 3 strikes rule).

Insurance coverage:  Please check with your insurance company first, if you are expecting them to cover the cost of therapeutic massage.  This varies from company to company and state to state . There is generally a co-payment that you will be required to pay immediately before or after the session.

General advice:  I look forward to your input!  Be an active participant in your massage session.  Feel free to ask questions about things you don't understand and let me know how I can enhance your overall experience.  Above all, relax and enjoy your massage!
